Rome hosts the Environmental Photography Prize exhibition by the Prince Albert II Foundation: biodiversity conservation and international cooperation

On May 19, Rome welcomed a Monegasque delegation from the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation for the inauguration of the photographic exhibition “Homme-Nature: fragile balances,” hosted at the Botanical Garden of Rome.

The exhibition, organized by the Italian branch of the Foundation in partnership with the Fondazione Roma Sapienza and under the patronage of the Embassy of Monaco in Italy, showcases award-winning photographs from the first five editions of the Environmental Photography Prize.

The initiative highlights the global commitment of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, which over the past 20 years has become a key international actor in raising awareness and implementing concrete solutions for biodiversity protection, climate action and ocean conservation.

Photography and environmental awareness: the Environmental Photography Prize

The exhibition brings together selected works from the Foundation’s international competition dedicated to environmental themes such as biodiversity loss, climate change and ocean preservation.

During the opening ceremony, H.E. Anne Eastwood, Ambassador of Monaco to Italy and Vice President of the Italian branch of the Foundation, emphasized the increasing role of the Foundation as a global driver of environmental action.

The exhibition will travel across Italy throughout the year, extending its message of environmental awareness beyond Rome.

Conference on biodiversity: challenges and opportunities

Following the inauguration, a conference titled “Biodiversity conservation: challenges and opportunities for the future” gathered institutional and scientific experts.

Speakers included Romain Ciarlet, Vice President and Executive Director of the Foundation, Marco Colasanti, President of the Italian branch, and Fabio Attorre, Director of the Botanical Garden of Rome.

Discussions focused on the current state of global ecosystems and ongoing innovative projects aimed at biodiversity protection in Italy and across the Mediterranean region.

Monaco–Rome cooperation for environmental protection

The event also marked the formal strengthening of cooperation between the Exotic Garden of Monaco and the Botanical Garden of Rome, following an agreement signed in Monaco and reaffirmed in Rome.

Representatives including André Campana, Deputy Mayor of Monaco, and Diane Ortolani, Director of the Exotic Garden, attended the ceremony, highlighting the shared commitment to scientific and cultural collaboration.

An international project combining art, science and sustainability

The Rome event represents a key intersection between photography, science and environmental diplomacy, aiming to raise awareness of the fragile relationship between humans and nature.

The exhibition will remain open until June 30 at the Botanical Garden of Rome.
