In Monaco, experts from the Biodiversity Committee of the Alpine Convention met on 12 and 13 February at the Auditorium Rainier III to finalise the new Alpine Biodiversity Action Plan.
This key strategic document will be submitted for adoption at the next Alpine Conference, scheduled for January 2027.
Delegations from Slovenia, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France and Monaco worked together to make the final adjustments to the plan, the result of several years of international cooperation.
Ms Astrid Claudel-Rusin, Head of Section at the Department of the Environment, who co-chairs one of the Committee’s thematic working groups, stressed the importance of concluding the preparation phase and sharing in Monaco the outcomes of the work carried out within the four core pillars of the plan:
conservation, restoration, ecological connectivity and biodiversity monitoring.
Discussions held in Monaco made it possible to combine different national approaches, strengthen synergies between experts and consolidate a shared vision.
The plan aims to address the major challenges facing Alpine ecosystems, in a context shaped by climate change, increasing pressure from human activities and changing land-use practices.
The future Action Plan is intended to become a common reference framework, supporting long-term policies for the protection of biodiversity throughout the Alpine region.
