Philosophy Week in MonteCarlo, from Tuesday, June 11 to Sunday, June 16, 2024.

The goal is to create a “community” where the words and thoughts of philosophers circulate freely among everyone, illuminating, even if only with a faint light, the increasingly complex problems of the present time.

From Tuesday, June 11 to Sunday, June 16, 2024, numerous personalities will participate in conversations, interviews, round tables, dialogues with the public, and book presentations on the themes of Ecology, Education, Care, Women, and the Art of Living.

The Week’s Main Participants

PhiloMonaco Week will be attended by Charlotte Casiraghi, Laura Hugo, Robert Maggiori, Raphael Zagury-Orly, members of the Jury – Isabelle Alfandary, Paul Audi, Étienne Bimbenet, Catherine Chalier, Marc Crépon, Sandra Laugier, Claire Marin, Géraldine Muhlmann, Judith Revel, Camille Riquier, Patrick Savidan – and many other personalities present to participate in the meetings and exchange views with the public, including: Chantal Thomas of the Académie française, Anne Berest, Sarah Chiche, Vincent Delecroix, Raphaël Gaillard, Olivia Gazalé, Laurence Joseph, Alexandre Kouchner, Martin Legros, Philippe Meirieu, Corine Pelluchon, Laurent de Sutter, and Augustin Trapenard.

Presided over by Charlotte Casiraghi, presented by Thierry Consigny, and in the presence of Jury President Robert Maggiori and the Jury members, the Award Ceremony for a work, the Honorary Mention for a publishing house, and the High School Award assigned to two high school students will take place on Thursday, June 13 at 8:00 PM at the Théâtre Princesse Grace. The ceremony is open to all, and entry is free. On this occasion, the book “What is Philosophy?” by the 2022 Prize winner, Manon Garcia, will be published.

Morning Sessions

From Tuesday, June 7 to Friday, June 10, morning sessions will take place at the Condamine Market, Place d’Armes, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in collaboration with the Municipality of Monaco and Monaco Info. After an interview between the participants moderated by Sandrine Nègre, the public will be invited to intervene, debate, and ask questions to the invited personalities. In collaboration with the Monaco Media Library and the Café du Théâtre Princesse Grace, the Philosophy Lunches will present a book related to the theme of each Day during a discussion with its author at lunchtime.

Book Signings

The presentations will be followed by a book signing session at the bookstore set up at the Theatre for PhiloMonaco Week. Meetings will continue in the afternoon and evening in the Grand Hall of the Théâtre Princesse Grace and will mostly be streamed live on philomonaco.com and the PhiloMonaco YouTube and Facebook pages.

Additional Locations and Events

On Saturday, June 15, the meetings will be held on the terrace of the Café de Paris and in the Excelsior Hall of the Hôtel Hermitage, in collaboration with Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer; and on Sunday, June 16 at the Yacht Club of Monaco.

Activities for Children

During the same PhiloMonaco Week, the new issue of the magazine “Les Jeunes philosophent,” created with the schoolchildren and teachers of Monaco this year on the theme of language, will be published. Philosophical workshops will be held in fifth-grade classes led by Edwige Chirouter and Alicia Polzella Gauduel.
