The history of fire making is as old as human history. Through a retrospective of techniques, we will examine traditional fire-starting techniques as well as more modern and original ones.
Fire is the result of a chemical reaction, but it has always fascinated mankind. The earliest actual traces of hearths date back to 400,000 years ago and testify to humans’ domestic use of fire. Today, this vital element is taken for granted. However, it marks a turning point in human evolution.

Martine Doytier was an artist in Nice from 1971 to 1984. Over the course of thirteen years, she developed captivating work.
Her keen eye and ability to sketch characters and tell their stories produced a corpus of works in constant evolution and led her to undertake what would be her last unfinished work: “Self-portrait,” a painting she worked on for five years, passionately describing her daily world.
