Some words have the power to transcend time, awaken memories and give voice to emotions that often remain unspoken. And some artistic encounters can amplify that power, transforming the act of reading into an experience that engages all the senses. It is precisely at this intersection of poetry, music and images that “Quello che siamo – Parole / Note Live” takes shape, a performance coming to Monaco’s Théâtre des Variétés on Monday, 9 November 2026.
Scheduled for 6.30 pm, the event is organised by the Monaco Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society and features Giancarlo Cattaneo and Maurizio Rossato, two Italian professionals who, through their different backgrounds and artistic languages, have helped shape new ways of presenting and sharing the written and spoken word.
This will be much more than a traditional poetry recital. It is an artistic journey in which the voice becomes a storytelling instrument, music accompanies the evocative power of poetry, and images help create an emotional visual narrative. Different forms of expression come together in a contemporary performance designed to bring poetry closer to audiences and appeal to a wide range of sensibilities.
Leading the audience through this journey will be Giancarlo Cattaneo, a well-known Radio Monte Carlo presenter and a familiar voice to Italian listeners. He currently hosts Take It Easy alongside Tamara Donà, broadcast Monday to Friday from 6 pm to 8 pm.
Through his interpretation, a selection of poems and reflections will take on new depth and intensity. The rhythm of his reading, the pauses and the subtle nuances of his voice will transform words into inner images, allowing each audience member to discover fragments of their own personal story.
Joining Cattaneo will be Maurizio Rossato, a radio producer and director with extensive experience in Italian broadcasting. His work includes collaborations on successful programmes such as Il Volo del Mattino, hosted by Fabio Volo, and Catteland, hosted by Alessandro Cattelan, both broadcast on Radio Deejay.
Rossato will create the sound and visual universe of the performance, combining music, sound effects, images and words in a carefully crafted composition. The result is an experience that goes beyond conventional readings and theatrical recitals.
The expression chosen by the creators, “a cinema of poetry”, perfectly captures the spirit of the project. Poems are not simply recited; they become part of a narrative enriched by soundscapes and visual suggestions. Audiences are invited to immerse themselves in an experience in which every element contributes to evoking emotions, memories and states of mind.
The title Quello che siamo (“Who We Are”) encapsulates the deeper meaning of the performance: exploring the human condition through emotions, vulnerabilities, desires and contradictions. Poetry thus becomes common ground, a space in which individual experiences can meet and resonate with one another.
In an age dominated by rapid communication and an endless flow of images and information, this performance offers an opportunity to rediscover the value of listening and reflection. Taking a moment to pause, allowing words to resonate and reconnecting with the ability to feel deeply are all part of the experience.
The event forms part of the cultural programme of the Dante Alighieri Society in the Principality of Monaco, which has long been committed to promoting the Italian language and culture. Through meetings, performances and cultural initiatives, the organisation continues to strengthen the cultural dialogue between Italy and Monaco, engaging audiences interested in contemporary artistic expression.
The evening will take place under the High Patronage of H.R.H. Princess of Hanover and with the Patronage of the Embassy of Italy in the Principality of Monaco, further highlighting the cultural significance of the initiative.
“Quello che siamo – Parole / Note Live” will take place on Monday, 9 November 2026, at 6.30 pm, at the Théâtre des Variétés in Monaco.
