On 23 February, H.E. Ms Anne Eastwood, Ambassador of Monaco to Italy, accompanied by Ms Christelle Revel, Second Secretary, welcomed at the Embassy of Monaco in Italy a delegation of students from the Students Diplomatic Association (LUDSA) of LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome.
The meeting took place within the framework of the “Meetings with Diplomats” initiative promoted by the university, aimed at bringing students closer to the world of diplomacy.
Welcomed in an informal and friendly atmosphere over a welcome breakfast, the students—most of whom are enrolled in the International Relations programme of one of the world’s leading universities for education in political science and diplomacy—then attended a comprehensive presentation on the missions of the Embassy of Monaco in Italy.
During the discussion, the Ambassador shared her professional experience, offering a distinctive perspective on the diplomatic practice of the Principality of Monaco, which does not have a career diplomatic corps. This aspect provided an opportunity to reflect on alternative professional paths and on the specific characteristics of micro-state diplomacy.
The particularly rich and stimulating exchanges addressed several key topics, including:
the specificities of micro-state diplomacy;
the realities of diplomatic work on the ground;
the role of diplomats in shaping and implementing national foreign policy strategies;
the current state and evolution of international relations in a global context.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Ambassador wished to commend the quality and relevance of the students’ questions, highlighting the depth of their reflection on bilateral and multilateral cooperation and their desire to build a career path grounded in a well-informed and comprehensive understanding of modern diplomacy.
An encounter that underscored the commitment of younger generations to engaging with the major transformations of the world and the challenges of our time, reaffirming the value of direct dialogue between diplomatic institutions and universities.
