After “Tartuffe” and “The Learned Ladies,” Macha Makeïeff takes on Molière’s “Dom Juan.” Written in 1665, the play is here set in the 18th century, a time of transgression and libertinism. The figure of the Marquis de Sade appears in the background, unable to deny his connection with this Dom Juan and his insatiable desires.
In Macha Makeïeff’s version, Dom Juan is no longer a triumphant seducer but a hindered man. A chiaroscuro reinterpretation exploring desire, its impulses, and also its dead ends. In direct resonance with our #metoo era and its lawless predators, this show premiered in March 2024 at the TNB in Villeurbanne.
