Since 2011, Monaco has decided to join the program “The Bee, Sentinel of the Environment” initiated by the National Union of French Beekeeping (UNAF).
Since the signing of this partnership, several beehives have been installed in various locations in the Principality, especially on the rooftop terrace of the Museum of Stamps and Coins in Fontvieille.
These beehives are digitally monitored and allow measuring the impacts of our environment on these valuable contributors to the grand biological cycle.
A growing number of threats indeed weigh on bees and all pollinators in general, with the use of pesticides, monoculture, climate change, or new predators like the Asian hornet.
In order to raise awareness about the fundamental role of bees and the importance of their protection, the Urban Development Department is pleased to offer free activities for both children and adults on Friday, June 14th, and Saturday, June 15th, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in the UNESCO Garden on the terraces of Fontvieille.
The program includes workshops about honey and bees: honey extraction, making candles with natural wax, assembling a beehive, educational games, photo exhibitions…
We look forward to seeing many of you there!
