The Garden Club of Monaco, founded in 1968 by Princess Grace of Monaco, is organizing the 55th International Bouquet Competition on May 4th and 5th, 2024, at the Yacht Club of Monaco. Under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II and the Presidency of H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover, this 55th edition has the general theme: ‘Seas and Oceans’. The categories around this theme are all ‘free’ style and open to all (amateurs and professionals, decorators and teachers, except for the ‘youth’ category reserved for children aged 6 to 14):

  1. Vintage sailboats: large dimension
  2. A coral reef: on a base
  3. A fishing net: a niche
  4. A storm at sea: on a pedestal
  5. The ice floe or iceberg: a niche
  6. Lunch on board: table decoration
  7. The Beach (youth categories): a niche Entries for the Competition are possible until April 26, 2024.

The Competition rules are available on the Garden Club of Monaco website: https://www.gardenclubmonaco.com/monaco-concours-bouquets The ‘Special Jury’, chaired by H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover and composed of personalities from the literary and artistic world, will award the Special Prizes.

The ‘Official Jury’, composed of judges, professors, international authors, and Floral Art specialists, will award the Gold, Silver, Bronze Badges, and the General Grand Prize, as well as the Princess Grace of Monaco Prize. The Garden Club of Monaco’s Conferences, free and open to the public, will also take place in the prestigious setting of the Yacht Club of Monaco on Sunday, May 5th, from 11:00 to 13:00:

  • ‘Ikebana and floral decoration’: Marco Ryoen Di Marco, teacher of the Ikebana Ohara Bologna Study Group, will present Ikebana, its evolution, and different ways of composing floral decorations according to this traditional Japanese art.
  • ‘The main methods of orchid multiplication: vegetative division, seeding, and cloning’ and a demonstration of orchid maintenance by Joël Jutel, Head grower at Les Orchidées Michel Vacherot.
  • ‘The art of Bonsai in Japan & Demonstration of shaping by ligature’: Bonsai cultivation in Japan presented by Hiroko Kinoshita followed by a shaping demonstration on a bonsai by Jonathan Pons (director of Bonsai Center in Nice) and his collaborator Jean-Marc Gubbiotti. This year too, the Conferences will be followed by a demonstration by Kévin Billard, florist and decorator of the Princely Palace, on Sunday, May 5th, from 15:00 to 16:30. Admission, free and open, will allow the public to admire the compositions on Saturday, May 4th, from 18:00 to 19:30 and on Sunday, May 5th, from 9:30 to 18:00.
