Summer Sales 2025: Ready, Set, Shop!
From 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25 until Tuesday, July 22, 2025, France officially kicks off the summer sales season. It’s a long-awaited time for shoppers and bargain hunters, with markdowns on clothing, accessories, tech, and more.
As usual, the national calendar sets the start date for the last Wednesday of June, unless that falls after the 28th—then it begins a week earlier. Note: Some regions follow their own schedule. In Corsica, for example, the sales will run from July 9 to August 5.
Same Rules Apply Online
The sales don’t stop at physical stores. E-commerce platforms must follow the same dates and rules. Whether the seller is based in Paris or operates solely online, compliance is mandatory.
Discounts With Transparency
Not all items can go on sale at the last minute. To be discounted, products must have been available and invoiced at least one month before the sales start. Introducing new products just for the sales is strictly forbidden.
Stores must clearly separate discounted items from full-price ones, with readable tags and visible signage. The displayed discount must reflect a real reference price—either the lowest price used in the previous month or the manufacturer’s recommended price. Artificial price increases before the sales to exaggerate discounts are illegal.
Advertising Rules and Penalties
Promotional campaigns must clearly indicate the sale start date and specify if the discounts apply to all items or only some. Any violation may result in fines of up to €1,500.
In Summary:
Summer Sales 2025 are a great chance to save, but they come with responsibilities for retailers, websites, and consumers alike. After all, a great deal should also be fair and transparent.
