Monaco, European Week for Waste Reduction 2026: Registrations Now Open

The Principality of Monaco is preparing to take part in the 8th edition of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR), taking place from November 21 to 29, 2026. The week will focus on raising awareness about waste prevention and promoting a more responsible approach to the use of resources, involving public institutions, associations, businesses, citizens and schools.

The Department of the Environment is encouraging everyone interested in contributing to the initiative to propose activities and awareness-raising projects during the European week.

EWWR 2026: a focus on responsible consumption of resources

The theme chosen for the 2026 edition is “Let’s question our choices and make the most of our resources!”. The message encourages people to reflect on their everyday habits and, in particular, on the relationship between consumption and the use of material resources.

The aim is to shift attention from simply managing waste to preventing waste at its source, starting with the choices made before a product even becomes waste.

EWWR is one of Europe’s leading awareness campaigns dedicated to waste reduction. It promotes behaviours inspired by the so-called 3Rs — refuse, reduce and reuse —, alongside recycling and returning organic matter to the earth.

From waste reduction to the circular economy

The 2026 edition therefore highlights the importance of using resources more responsibly, focusing on what is genuinely needed and encouraging consumption models capable of reducing waste.

This approach is closely linked to the principles of the circular economy, which aims to extend the lifespan of products, prevent waste and reduce the need for new resources.

Monaco recorded 96 initiatives during EWWR 2025

The results of the previous edition demonstrate the level of local engagement. In 2025, the 7th edition of the European Week for Waste Reduction recorded 96 initiatives carried out by 69 participating organisations and entities in the Principality.

The initiative brought together a wide range of participants, including public administrations, associations, businesses, citizens and educational institutions.

For 2026, the invitation remains open to everyone: participants can become “project promoters” by developing an initiative focused on waste prevention and reduction, or by volunteering to support activities organised as part of the programme.
