On March 20 and 21, the Principality welcomed the official visit of Nicolas RALLO, Director of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for the Europe-North Atlantic Region.

It is the first time since its accession in 1980 that Monaco has hosted a Regional Director of this United Nations organization, whose mission is to provide technical and diplomatic support to 193 countries worldwide in order to coordinate aviation activity and ensure reliable connections for all.

Welcomed by Céline CARON-DAGIONI, Government Counselor-Minister of Equipment, Environment, and Urban Planning, for an interministerial meeting bringing together representatives from her Department, as well as from the Department of External Relations and Cooperation, the Department of the Interior, and Public Security, Mr. RALLO was able to fully appreciate the joint work of the Princely Government teams and discover the specificities of the Monegasque territory.

At the heart of the discussions were the sustainable transition of aviation, drone regulation, the development of synergies between the different sector stakeholders to position Monaco as a pioneer in decarbonized aviation, and the strengthening of the legal framework to ensure an increasingly secure airspace.

The official visit continued at the Monaco Heliport to present the Monegasque infrastructure, as well as the teams from the Directorate of Civil Aviation and the sector’s operators.
