The Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology of Monaco presents a special programme for summer 2026 dedicated to children and teenagers, featuring a series of prehistoric workshops designed to introduce younger visitors to archaeology, human history and science through play, experimentation and creativity.

From 21 July to 6 August 2026, the museum will host educational and creative activities for two age groups: children aged 5 to 7 and young people aged 8 and over. Participants will have the opportunity to experience life as young archaeologists, explore museum collections and discover the techniques developed by prehistoric communities.

Prehistoric workshops in Monaco: learning through discovery and experimentation

The summer programme combines scientific knowledge with practical activities, allowing young participants to explore human evolution, the relationship between humans and their environment, and the skills developed by the first communities.

Each day includes two different programmes adapted to the age of participants:

  • from 9:30 am to 11:30 am: activities for children aged 5 to 7;
  • from 2 pm to 4 pm: workshops for participants aged 8 and over.

The workshops will take place on:

  • Tuesday 21 July 2026;
  • Thursday 30 July 2026;
  • Monday 3 August 2026;
  • Tuesday 4 August 2026;
  • Thursday 6 August 2026.

Activities for children aged 5 to 7: archaeology, prehistoric art and ancient skills

Younger visitors will discover Prehistory through activities designed to develop curiosity, creativity and observation skills.

The programme includes:

  • creating sculptures inspired by prehistoric animals;
  • building prehistoric shelters;
  • pottery-making activities;
  • creating beads inspired by ancient artefacts;
  • prehistoric painting workshops;
  • discovering animal footprints;
  • the sensory workshop “The Mystery Box of Prehistory”;
  • an introduction to prehistoric fire-making techniques;
  • activities inspired by the rock engravings of the Valley of Wonders.

A fun and interactive way to understand how our ancestors lived through hands-on experiences.

Workshops for teenagers aged 8 and over: experimental archaeology and human evolution

The programme for older participants offers a deeper exploration of archaeology and the history of human evolution.

Teenagers will take part in:

  • experimental archaeology workshops;

  • creating prehistoric ornaments;
  • activities exploring the relationship between humans and animals in prehistoric times;
  • clay modelling;
  • demonstrations of ancient fire-making techniques;

  • an introduction to hunting techniques used by early human communities;
  • pebble painting inspired by early forms of art;
  • discovery games about beliefs and symbolic practices of ancient cultures through museum collections.
