The Corps des Sapeurs-Pompiers de Monaco held a solemn and highly symbolic ceremony on Monday, June 29, 2026, marking the official presentation of operational helmets to nine new recruits, who now formally join the Principality’s fire and rescue service.

The event took place at Place du Campanin, in the presence of Monaco’s highest authorities and the families of the young firefighters.

The ceremony was presided over by Lieutenant-Colonel Maxime Yvrard, Head of the Corps.

Dignitaries in attendance included:

  • Mr. Lionel Beffre, Government Counsellor – Minister of the Interior
  • Colonel Tony Varo, Commander of the Public Force
  • Lieutenant-Colonel Martial Pied, Head of the Prince’s Carabinieri Corps
  • Father Dominique Arz, who performed the blessing of the helmets

The religious blessing added strong symbolic significance to the ceremony, highlighting the sense of duty, protection, and responsibility associated with the firefighters’ mission.

The “Caporal Vivent Bruyère” class

The nine new recruits, enlisted in 2026, belong to the “Caporal Vivent Bruyère” class, named in honor of a Corps member who joined in 1975 and died in service in 1991 at the age of 37.

The ceremony was attended by the family of the honored corporal as well as the families of the recruits, creating a moment of deep emotional and institutional significance.

Five months of intensive operational training

After five months of rigorous training, the new firefighters acquired the essential skills required for their missions, including:

  • emergency medical response
  • firefighting operations
  • road rescue interventions
  • specialized rescue techniques
  • adv-990
  • driving and operating emergency vehicles
  • risk prevention
  • protection of people, property, and the environment

Their preparation also included military and physical training, along with exercises conducted on technical platforms provided by Corps partners and numerous operational drills carried out across the Principality.

The helmet ceremony: a symbol of belonging and responsibility

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the operational helmet, a symbolic gesture marking the recruits’ official integration into the Corps des Sapeurs-Pompiers de Monaco.

This moment represents:

The new firefighters will now take part in missions across Monaco and neighboring municipalities.

A phrase that embodies the daily mission and core values of Monaco’s firefighters.
