For the seventh consecutive year, the Monaco Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (IMSEE), in collaboration with the Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Women’s Rights, publishes the annual study on violence against women in the Principality of Monaco.

Since 2019, this publication has been an essential tool for monitoring and analyzing a complex and sensitive phenomenon. The 2025 edition features a renewed format, designed to enrich its content and offer new perspectives.

The main change is the adoption of the concept of “sexist violence”, as defined by GREVIO (the Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence) of the Council of Europe: any form of direct violence against a woman because she is a woman, or that disproportionately affects women. The goal is to provide a reference document highlighting the systemic nature of such violence, while maintaining visibility for the minority of men who may also be victims.

The study focuses on two main categories:

  • Intimate partner violence

  • Sexual violence

This approach allows for a higher level of detail for each type and a clearer understanding of the phenomena, including a specific analysis of the judicial handling of cases.

The data presented relate exclusively to 2025 and were collected from official sources in the Principality:

  • Public Security Department (DSP)

  • Direction of Social Action and Aid (DASO)

  • Princesse Grace Hospital Center (CHPG)

  • Association for Assistance to Victims of Criminal Offenses (AVIP)

Information is not cumulative across sources: figures reflect the incidents that occurred during the year.

Key figures from the 2025 edition:

  • 40 cases of intimate partner or sexual violence recorded by the DSP

  • Of the 72 cases reported by CHPG, 92% of the victims are women

  • Among cases followed by AVIP, 66% of intimate partner violence occurred in the presence of children

The study is available in French and English on the websites:

This publication confirms the Principality’s commitment to combating gender-based violence, providing essential knowledge tools to guide public policies and prevention strategies.
