As part of his visits to territories historically linked to the Grimaldi family and the Principality of Monaco, H.S.H. Prince Albert II undertook an important and symbolic journey on Tuesday, November 25, in Liguria, combining historical memory and cultural heritage preservation.
In Stella (SV), the Prince was welcomed by Mayor Andrea Castellini, local authorities, and numerous citizens. He paid tribute to Sandro Pertini, President of the Italian Republic from 1978 to 1985 and a beloved figure of the 20th century. The Sovereign laid a wreath on his tomb, highlighting Pertini’s courage during World War I, his anti-fascist commitment, and his central role in the Resistance. The visit continued with the exploration of the remains of the medieval castle belonging to the Grimaldi family, and concluded at the Sandro Pertini House-Museum, where the official speeches took place.
In the afternoon, H.S.H. Prince Albert II traveled to Andora, welcomed by Mayor Mauro Demichelis. There, he unveiled the official plaque of the réseau des Sites Historiques Grimaldi de Monaco, an initiative aimed at promoting sites linked to the history of the dynasty. The Sovereign also inaugurated the restoration works of the Clavesana – Paraxo castle, owned by the Grimaldi in the 13th century, concluding the visit with the adjacent church.
The Prince’s journey in Liguria carried a strong symbolic significance: linking the memory of historical figures such as Pertini with the promotion of architectural and cultural heritage that bears witness to the long shared history between Liguria and the Principality of Monaco. A journey that confirms the intention to strengthen historical, cultural, and identity ties between the two territories.
