Ten years after the passing of Pino Daniele, the Principality of Monaco is dedicating a special tribute to the great Neapolitan singer-songwriter with the screening of the docufilm Pino Daniele – Nero a metà, directed by Marco Spagnoli. The event, scheduled for Thursday, 20 November at 6:30 pm at the Théâtre des Variétés, is organized by the Dante Alighieri Society of the Principality of Monaco under the High Patronage of H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover and with the support of the Embassy of Italy.
Produced by Fidelio and distributed by Eagle Pictures, the film retraces the early years of Pino Daniele’s career through the narration of Stefano Senardi, producer and longtime friend of the artist. Both Senardi and journalist Daniele Doglio will attend, sharing memories, anecdotes and reflections on a musician who blended blues, rock and Neapolitan tradition to create an unmistakable style.
The documentary features contributions from leading figures of Italian music such as Enzo Avitabile, Tullio De Piscopo, Teresa De Sio, Tony Esposito, James Senese and many others. Their words guide the audience through Pino Daniele’s passion for the guitar, for Naples and for a music capable of uniting diverse languages and cultures.
The title Nero a metà recalls the iconic 1980 album—considered a milestone of Italian discography—which includes unforgettable songs such as Quanno Chiove, I say i’ sto cca and A me me piace ’o blues. These songs, together with masterpieces like Napule è and Je so’ pazzo, have deeply marked Italian musical culture.
The evening promises to be a heartfelt and meaningful tribute: an opportunity to celebrate Pino Daniele’s talent and artistic legacy in one of Europe’s most refined and international settings.
