Summer 2025 offers a double appointment for art lovers and those who want to discover a lesser-known side of Pablo Picasso. The Musée Magnelli, ceramic museum of Vallauris, dedicates two exhibitions to the intense and innovative relationship that the Spanish artist had throughout his life with the concept of “multiple”.

The art of the multiple

The two exhibitions, “Picasso, ses affiches” and “Picasso céramiques, les techniques du multiple”, offer a cross-sectional view of the artist’s ability to transform repetition into creativity, reproduction into invention. A serial idea, a creative practice that guided Picasso in his artistic production.

Experimentation as the key to Picasso’s art

From the early 20th century, Picasso confronted the concept of “multiple”, creating bronze casts of his sculptures and numerous engravings. But unlike many of his contemporaries, he didn’t settle for simple technical duplication: each repetition became a terrain for plastic exploration.

Art for all

In the post-war period, Picasso embraced the idea that art should be shared, experienced by all. A thought that took shape in Vallauris, where the artist spent several years and experimented with two exceptional tools for art diffusion: posters and ceramics.

A double path to discover the Picasso “multiple”

The two exhibitions organized by the Musée Magnelli offer complementary paths to discover the serial and experimental side of Picasso. A precious opportunity to enter the laboratory of one of the greatest innovators of the 20th century and discover how seriality, in his hands, was transformed into creative freedom.
