It’s the story of a man of today, not born yesterday, who has made his mark in Parisian cabarets (notably “chez ma cousine,” “don Camilo,” “César Palace,” “La Nouvelle Eve…”) as well as on theatrical stages across France.

Exhibition: I Stay with You

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Jean Cocteau’s death, the museum that he himself conceived as a testament to his art is returning to its historical layout.

Jean Cocteau died on October 11, 1963, leaving behind an incredibly rich and varied body of work. The question of his legacy and the future of his art was one of the artist’s main concerns in his final years, and Menton provided the solution by offering him the Bastion to set up his museum. In this showcase, decorated by Cocteau himself, he wanted to display some of the most emblematic works of his brilliant career: colorful pastels, monumental tapestries, stunning paintings, and bold ceramics form the original collection of this true testament museum…

Not to mention the famous series of “Lovers,” drawings that perfectly embody the artist’s Mediterranean inspiration. Sixty years after the death of the Prince of Poets, the Musée Jean Cocteau-le Bastion has returned to displaying his historical works, paying a vibrant tribute to its tutelary artist, embracing the words he wanted inscribed on his tombstone: “Je reste avec vous” (“I stay with you”).

Exhibition: Living Art, Form, Movement, Color

From March 16 to May 18

Exhibition presents a selection of abstract, expressionist, and surrealist works featured at the Menton Biennials, a key event for artistic creation in Europe in the second half of the 20th century.

The new exhibition at the Galerie des Musées du Palais de l’Europe, Living Art, Form, Movement, Color, presents a selection of works shown at the Menton Biennials, a key event for artistic creation in Europe in the second half of the 20th century.

The aim of the exhibition is not to provide an overview of the Biennials, but to focus on the painters who embodied a new form of Abstraction or redefined their relationship with the world. Most of these artists came to prominence after the Liberation, supported by young gallery owners, and achieved success and awards at art fairs and biennials around the world.
