Since its creation in 1989, the International Guide Dog Club of Monaco (CICAM) has been actively committed to promoting the inclusion of blind people in society.
Thanks to its long-standing partnership with the Frédéric Gaillanne Foundation, CICAM funds the training and assignment of guide dogs, helping young visually impaired individuals gain greater independence and freedom of movement.
Over the years, CICAM has expanded its mission, notably by providing material support to educational institutions (primary schools, middle schools, high schools), funding IT and teaching equipment to better assist students with disabilities.
A sport of focus, responsiveness and strategy
As part of its awareness-raising efforts, CICAM is organizing a Women’s Torball Championship on May 17, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Espace Saint Antoine gymnasium in Monaco.
Torball is a ball sport for visually impaired people that relies entirely on sound: players must orient themselves by listening to the bells inside the ball, as the game is played in silence. It is a discipline that combines focus, agility, and tactical thinking.
This event, made possible thanks to close cooperation with the Princely Government, in partnership with ANICES (Nice Association for Cultural and Sports Initiatives) and Handisport Nice, will bring together several teams from across France (Nice, Clermont-Ferrand, Laval, Nantes-Rezé), mostly composed of blind female athletes. The event aims not only to promote parasports but also to raise awareness of disability and break persistent stereotypes.
A commitment aligned with the Princely Government’s Handipact plan
This initiative is fully in line with the goals of the Handipact plan, launched by the Princely Government in December 2023, which promotes the inclusion of people with disabilities through various means, including sports. Sport is a powerful tool for empowerment, self-confidence, and social inclusion.
There’s no doubt that a wide audience will come to discover this impressive and demanding sport, one that requires total silence for the players to orient themselves and fully express their talent on the field.
