On Friday, May 9, at the Musée d’Anthropologie préhistorique in Monaco, the official presentation of the new EUROPA stamp took place, in the presence of Mrs. Lara TERLIZZI-ENZA, Director of the Postage Stamp Issuing Office (OETP), and Mrs. Elena ROSSONI-NOTTER, Director of the Museum.
The theme chosen for the 2025 edition by PostEurop was national archaeological discoveries. In this context, the creation of the stamp involved close collaboration with the Musée d’Anthropologie préhistorique. The OETP decided to highlight the Grotte de l’Observatoire, an iconic site dating back to between 250,000 and 20,000 years ago, and to emphasize the archaeological discoveries made in the Principality of Monaco.
The stamp, designed and engraved by artist André Lavergne, was printed in intaglio using six colors. Its face value is €2.10, corresponding to an international letter up to 20 grams. A total of 40,000 copies were printed.
Available at the Postage Stamp Office, the Stamp and Coin Museum, and Monaco’s post offices, this stamp is part of the prestigious EUROPA series, launched in 1956, which brings together around sixty countries each year around a common theme. Highly sought after by collectors, these stamps are among the most popular in the world.
