On September 26, 2024, H.E. Mr. Gabriel REVEL, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the Council of Europe, chaired for the first time a meeting of the Rapporteur Group on Legal Affairs (GR-J) of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
Appointed President of the Rapporteur Group by the 46 member states, the Ambassador will serve a two-year term, which will end on August 31, 2026.
The seven rapporteur groups are subsidiary bodies of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The GR-J is one of the most important, as it is responsible for monitoring the activities of the intergovernmental committees related to the rule of law and for discussing draft international conventions.
This marks the second Monegasque Presidency of a Rapporteur Group, twenty years after Monaco’s accession to the Council of Europe, which will be celebrated on October 2 in Strasbourg. It follows the presidency held by the late Ambassador Mr. Rémi MORTIER, who chaired the Rapporteur Group on External Relations (GR-EXT) from 2019 to 2021.
