From November 18 to 20, 2024, Céline Caron-Dagioni, Government Counselor and Minister of Equipment, Environment, and Urbanism, traveled to Baku (Azerbaijan) to participate in the ministerial segment of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29).
The key issue this year is the definition of a new financing goal until 2030 to support developing countries in their efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change. The finalization of rules related to market mechanisms (carbon offsetting) under the Paris Agreement will also be at the heart of the discussions.
Céline Caron-Dagioni delivered the national intervention, highlighting the measures deployed in the Principality of Monaco to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reiterating the need for everyone to raise their commitments in implementing the Paris Agreement.
The Government Counselor and Minister also represented the Principality at various high-level events, including a ministerial roundtable on urbanism and climate change.
As part of this COP, Monaco supported several declarations and initiatives, notably emphasizing the fundamental role of science, the need to limit global warming to 1.5°C, and the importance of decarbonizing and adapting cities.
