The Sainte Dévote Tournament is expanding!
Monegasque Rugby Federation is organizing the Sainte Dévote Tournament at the Stade Louis II on April 19th and 20th. The 12th edition will have Antoine Zeghdar as its patron.
This is the main 7-a-side rugby event for young rugby players under 12 years old. The Sainte-Dévote Tournament, named after the Patron Saint of the Principality, will take place on April 19th and 20th at the Stade Louis II. For this 12th edition, 24 U12 teams from 21 different countries will compete in this prestigious international competition organized by the Monegasque Rugby Federation with the support of the Princess Charlene Foundation. This year, the event is expanding. It will be held for two days instead of just one as in previous years. The South African Blue Bulls will defend their title in Monaco.
They will compete against countries that have become regular attendees such as Mauritius, the United States, France, and Italy, but also against newcomers like India, Ivory Coast, and Jamaica. In addition to the sporting aspect, the values of rugby will also be highlighted. These matches will illustrate teamwork and the concepts of generosity, solidarity, and respect that allow children to better accept themselves and build harmoniously alongside others.
This year, participants in the Sainte Dévote Tournament will be able to count on the exceptional support of Antoine Zeghdar. The French rugby 7s player has accepted with immense honor to be the patron of the 2024 edition. Last March, the Monaco native won the Los Angeles leg of the world circuit with the Bleus before taking silver in Hong Kong a few weeks later. “I am very honored to be the patron of the 2024 Sainte Dévote Tournament,” commented Zeghdar on the social media of the Monegasque Rugby Federation, “this international competition for young people is for me a beautiful moment of rugby to which I have long participated as a volunteer and which has allowed me to meet great players.” This time, he will be the great player with whom these under-12s will have the chance to share a privileged moment.
An event within the event, the Sainte Dévote Tournament will be marked by the draw for the Rugby 7s Olympic Qualification Tournament, which will take place from June 21st to 23rd at the Stade Louis II. A moment during which the 24 male and female teams involved will know their future opponents to win the precious ticket to the Paris 2024 Games. Several personalities will be present including the vice-president of World Rugby, John Jeffrey, and of course, the patron of the 2024 Sainte Dévote Tournament, Antoine Zeghdar (France as the host country is automatically qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games).
The draw for the Olympic Qualification Tournament will be broadcast live on Monaco Info starting at 6:00 p.m.
