Monaco is proud to announce the achievement of the EEA Gold label (European Energy Award Gold), a prestigious distinction that rewards the Principality’s ongoing efforts to improve the management of its energy and climate policy, as well as its energy transition. With an outstanding score of 80.2%, Monaco now joins the few territories that have reached this level of excellence. The EEA Gold label is awarded to territories that actively engage in reducing their carbon footprint, preserving biodiversity, and adapting to climate change. This label reflects the success of concrete measures implemented to promote a sustainable, effective, and innovative energy policy. It represents the highest recognition at the European level for territories committed to the implementation of their Climate Air Energy Plan.
This initiative, led by the Environment Directorate, a decision-making member of the EEA Association alongside Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, and Switzerland, is the result of cross-sector, multi-actor collaboration between various Directorates/Departments of the Prince’s Government, as well as the Municipality of Monaco, who worked together to achieve this ambitious goal. This distinction is a testament to the coordinated efforts and environmental leadership of the Principality. Continuing this collective effort will help build a more sustainable future for Monaco and future generations. The achievement of this EEA Gold label marks a major step in the implementation and monitoring of the Principality’s energy and climate policy, showcasing its exemplary status both nationally and internationally. Monaco received the label during a ceremony held in Italy, in Bolzano, on November 28th.
