Stefanos Tsitsipas is the winner of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, 117th edition.

He defeated the Norwegian Casper Ruud in two sets, 6-1 6-4 in less than two hours. The Greek player dominates and triumphs for the 3rd time in Monte Carlo, becoming the 5th tennis player in the Open Era to win at least 3 times in the Principality. Tsitsipas, in red, leaves a lasting mark on the tournament, along with other prestigious three-time winners: Rafael Nadal (11), Bjorn Borg (3), Thomas Muster (3), and Ilie Nastase (3). “If someone had told me a few years ago, when I arrived in Monaco in 2018, that I would experience so many wonderful moments like this, I wouldn’t have believed it,” Tsitsipas thanked at the trophy presentation by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.

Tsitsipas also defeated Jannik Sinner, the South Tyrolean whom all Italians – over 33% of the attendance at the tournament – would have wanted to see in the final. However, due to a mistake by the chair umpire, Aurelie Tourte, it influenced the course of Sinner-Tsitsipas in Monte Carlo. A serious mistake, but one that won’t be possible from 2025 onwards. Jannik Sinner himself, always measured, confident, and determined, confirmed in a press conference with class, “One must accept, it was a mistake, but everyone can make mistakes. I played ‘my best’. I move forward with a smile, preparing for the next two Grand Slams. I won’t play the final on the center court, it hurts, I wanted to be there, but I’ll be at home.” What a pity. Because, once again, the Country Club hosting the first Masters 1000 on clay was completely sold out, with record numbers surpassing the 2023 edition. The tournament director, David Massey, confirmed this in a press conference, expressing satisfaction and thanking especially “the SNCF, the Mairie de Roquebrune-Cap-Martin as well as Monaco. Thanks also to all sponsors without whom this tournament would not be possible and who have been with us for a long time, but also thanks to Yokohama for joining us for the first time. And to Lancaster creams, the official supplier.” Thanks to prestigious sponsors, the sporting event of the Principality also attracts international stars. During the semifinal, the crew of the highly anticipated film “Challengers,” composed of actress and producer Zendaya and actors Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor, were present at the Monte Carlo Country Club. And during the finals, notable figures such as Charles Leclerc and Boris Becker were not absent. Meanwhile, in 2025, there will be innovations! “We cannot think of putting a roof on the Center Court, as it is a temporary stadium, with stands that are dismantled after the tournament. But as for Court 2, we have a project that could be ready in a couple of years, or maybe a little longer: it involves expanding the space for stands and improving the cover so that it is resistant to strong wind as well as rain. So that it can actually be an option in case of persistent bad weather, and it can become a court followed by television even in case of roof usage,” explains David Massey, concluding by anticipating the new technologies, “ATP will no longer adopt line judges, but the live Hawk-Eye here on our clay. This is a step that ATP itself considers crucial for an overall better quality of the game.”
