Monaco participates in the 31st meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council

Mme Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ, Government Counsellor-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, participated in the 31st meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), which was held in Malta on December 5 and 6, 2024. She was accompanied by H.E. Mr. Lorenzo RAVANO, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the OSCE, and Mr. Jean-Laurent IMBERT, Deputy Permanent Representative.

Under the theme “Strengthening Resilience, Improving Security,” this edition, which brought together more than 40 Foreign Ministers, was once again dominated by the war in Ukraine.

In her speech, Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ denounced the daily violations of international law and fundamental freedoms in Ukraine and reaffirmed the Principality’s support for vulnerable populations through the funding of multilateral projects. She reminded that the stability of the Mediterranean region was also a major concern, particularly as the situation in the Middle East raises serious concerns.

Additionally, the Minister-Counsellor congratulated the Maltese Presidency, whose efforts led to an agreement on the appointment of the four OSCE leadership positions. Thus, Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu (Turkey), Maria Telalian (Greece), Christophe Kamp (Netherlands), and Jan Braathu (Norway) were appointed respectively as Secretary-General, Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, High Commissioner on National Minorities, and OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, for a three-year term.

As 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act, the founding document of the OSCE, Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ once again emphasized the importance of the multidimensional approach to security.

On the sidelines of the Ministerial Council, the Minister-Counsellor held bilateral meetings with her counterparts from Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Portugal, and Japan to discuss various topics of common interest.
