Antibes and Sustainable Tourism in Autumn: Five Events Focusing on Nature, the Sea and Environmental Protection

Autumn brings a series of initiatives dedicated to sustainable tourism, environmental protection and the enhancement of the natural heritage to Antibes. As part of the European Sustainable Development Week, running until October 8, the area is hosting a programme of events focused on the relationship between tourism, nature and environmental responsibility.

Five initiatives promoted or supported by local tourism operators explore different aspects of sustainability, from photography and scientific outreach to coastal walks and practical activities aimed at protecting the shoreline. The programme is designed to encourage visitors, residents and tourism professionals to discover the area while raising awareness of the importance of preserving the ecosystems of Cap d’Antibes and the Mediterranean.

Cap d’Antibes through photography

The programme begins with art and photography through the exhibition “Regards croisés sur le Cap d’Antibes”, on display until October 15 at the Tourist and Convention Office.

Antibes photographers Véronique and Frédéric Laures present the natural heritage of Cap d’Antibes through their photographs, offering a visual perspective on the landscapes and environments that characterise this stretch of the Mediterranean coast.

Admission to the exhibition is free. It can be visited at 2 bis rue Fontvieille, from Monday to Saturday and on Sunday mornings.

A walk along the Tire-Poil coastal trail

On October 6, attention turns to the natural landscape with a guided walk along the Tire-Poil coastal trail, starting at 9:30 am from Garoupe Beach.

Lasting approximately two and a half hours, the walk offers an opportunity to discover the biodiversity of Cap d’Antibes and learn more about the challenges involved in protecting an especially fragile natural environment.

The cost is €12, reduced to €6 for certain categories, while children under eight can participate free of charge. Booking is required.

Protecting the coastline through collective action

The programme also includes a practical initiative dedicated to coastal clean-up.

On November 20, from 9 am to noon, the Tourist and Convention Office, together with several local operators, will organise a collective coastal clean-up. The meeting point will be Casino JOA La Siesta.

The initiative is reserved for tourism professionals and aims to involve local operators directly in collecting waste while raising awareness about the protection of the coastline.

Partners include Ensemble Pour la Protection du Littoral Antibois, Univalom, JOA La Siesta, We Acteam and Les Sharks.

Sustainability also reaches the hotel sector

The hotel industry is also taking part in the discussion surrounding responsible tourism. The Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, the historic hotel on Cap d’Antibes, has dedicated a series of four podcasts to its CSR policy, released during September on Spotify, Deezer and YouTube.

The podcasts focus on three main themes: the environment, support for the local area and the transmission of knowledge. Through these episodes, the hotel presents projects and partnerships linked to a more responsible approach to hospitality.

Discovering Mediterranean marine biodiversity

The final part of the programme focuses on the sea. Posidonia, Espace Mer & Littoral is a centre dedicated to the marine ecosystems of Cap d’Antibes.

Through aquariums, interactive exhibitions and a virtual diving experience, visitors can discover the fauna and flora of the Mediterranean, combining education with environmental awareness.

As part of the autumn programme, some Posidonia activities will be held directly at the Tourist Office on September 30 and October 3, 6 and 7, featuring an interactive game dedicated to marine biodiversity.

Antibes promotes more conscious tourism

Photography, coastal walks, environmental education, shoreline clean-ups and scientific outreach provide different ways of exploring the issue of sustainability.

Antibes’ autumn programme connects the discovery of the territory with the need to protect it, promoting a tourism model increasingly centred on knowledge of the area, biodiversity and environmental conservation.

The relationship between tourism and nature therefore becomes an opportunity to involve visitors and local professionals in preserving and enhancing the coastal and marine heritage of Antibes.
