Trip in search of Wonders in Tenda and Briga
The first appointment, Wednesday, July 17th, marks the start of a series of meetings and walks around the Via Julia Augusta, organized by the Civic Archaeological Museum “Girolamo Rossi”, home to the Alcotra information point on the ancient route.
On the occasion of the 106th anniversary of Clarence Bicknell’s death, which occurred peacefully in Casterino on July 17, 1918, the Museum, the Intemelia Section, and the Sanremo Section of ISL are organizing a journey along the paths of the Val Roia towards the Tenda Museum. Participants will be welcomed by director Silvia Sandrone and the Museum team, which has long been twinned with the MAR of Ventimiglia. The historical section beneath the terrace of Forte dell’Annunziata devotes ample space to the Roia Valley and the Valley of Wonders.
After the visit, participants can enjoy free time for lunch and then return with a stop in Briga to visit Our Lady of the Fountains chapel, built on a pre-Christian worship site at the intersection of routes connecting the Nervia Valley, Roia Valley, and Lower Piedmont. The chapel was frescoed by Canavesio in 1492.
Program:
Departure from Sanremo at 8:00 AM (possible stops on the way to Ventimiglia to pick up participants).
9:00 AM Departure from Ventimiglia to Tenda.
10:00 AM Guided tour of the Tenda Museum and ongoing exhibitions.
12:30 PM Free lunch.
2:30 PM Departure for Briga, guided tour of the sanctuary of Our Lady of the Fountains.
4:30 PM Short visit to the village of Briga.
5:30 PM Departure for the return journey.
COST TO BE DEFINED BASED ON THE NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS. IF 40 PARTICIPANTS ARE REACHED, IT WILL BE €35.00 PER PERSON.
