The 5th Meeting of the Grimaldi Historic Sites of Monaco will be held on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June in Place du Palais princier.
Over the centuries, the Grimaldis have forged links and established themselves in many regions of France and Italy. The Princes of Monaco are the Duc de Valentinois, Marquis des Baux, Comte de Carladès, Baron de Saint-Lô, d’Hambye, Comte de Longjumeau… These titles were acquired following diplomatic agreements or matrimonial alliances, and almost 150 sites are linked to the Grimaldi family.
In order to maintain the links between the former ‘fiefdoms’ that share a common past with the Principality, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco regularly visits these communes. It was in 2018 that, in accordance with His wish, the 1st Meeting of the Grimaldi Historic Sites of Monaco was held in the Place du Palais with around ten communes and territories linked to His family.
This year, the Federation of Grimaldi Historic Sites of Monaco has invited two French communes, Breil-sur-Roya and Bathernay, as well as 10 Italian communes: Ventimiglia, Olivetta San Michele, Airole, Ripacandida, Campagna, Monteverde, Spinazzola, Poggiorsini, Terlizzi and Canosa di Puglia.
The event will be all about conviviality and sharing. There will be plenty of activities on offer for young and old alike, including cultural events, food tastings, folk dancing, the chance to meet local artists and craftspeople, pony rides, square ball games, farm animals and more.
Each of the guest venues will be showcasing its historical links with the Principality, as well as its regional and cultural heritage.
One of the highlights of the weekend will be the ‘Son & Lumière’ show on Saturday 15 June at 10pm.
A projection on the façade of the Princely Palace will recount the history of the links between the guest towns and the Grimaldi dynasty.
Admission to the event is free.
