Mayor Flavio Di Mauro has confirmed his intention to allocate the municipally-owned building for hospitality, providing space for entrepreneurs interested in transforming the structure into a hotel. Located in the heart of the city’s historic center, the former convent, once a residence for religious figures, has remained abandoned for several years. Recently, access points have been sealed to prevent potential intrusions. However, nothing can dim the charm of its characteristic ocher-red façade, adorned with elegant balustrades and vaulted ceilings.

The increasingly growing influx of tourists to Ventimiglia aligns with a new project that envisions the creation of around ten rooms overlooking the bay. This initiative coincides with a transformative period for the city, attracting a growing number of visitors. The mayor has expressed optimism regarding the rising tourism flows and hopes for industry stakeholders’ interest in the border town.

Previously, the Marina Development company, led by Monaco resident Robert Thielen, had presented a redevelopment project for the property, initially proposed as a Medical Spa. However, this proposal was rejected by the Ligurian Superintendence. The company, managed by the Dutch-origin entrepreneur, aimed to transform the building, potentially creating 180 jobs, as reported by sanremonews.it. Nevertheless, the municipality decided to reassess the situation and consent to the creation of a hotel. The Di Muro administration hopes to act promptly to restore the state of the building, previously occupied unlawfully by homeless individuals.
