On Saturday, May 23, 2026, the European Night of Museums (Nuit Européenne des Musées) returns as one of the most anticipated cultural events in Europe, also involving the city of Nice and several towns across the French Riviera.

For one evening, museums, cultural sites, and exhibition spaces will exceptionally open their doors to the public in the evening hours, offering free admission and a rich program of events, guided tours, and artistic performances.

The initiative, promoted by the French Ministry of Culture at a European level, aims to make cultural heritage more accessible and to attract new audiences through immersive experiences and contemporary forms of expression.


Museums open in Nice for Museum Night 2026

In Nice, Museum Night 2026 features extended opening hours and free admission to numerous city museums, along with special activities for visitors.

In addition to permanent collections, the public will enjoy guided tours, performances, screenings, and interactive events.

Main participating museums include:

  • Archaeology Museum of Cimiez (6:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
  • International Museum of Naïve Art Anatole Jakovsky (6:00 PM – 10:00 PM)
  • Palais Lascaris (6:00 PM – 10:00 PM)
  • Villa Arson (2:00 PM – midnight)
  • Photography Museum (6:00 PM – 10:00 PM)
  • Matisse Museum (6:00 PM – 9:00 PM)
  • Masséna Museum (6:00 PM – 10:00 PM)

A cultural journey spanning centuries, from Prehistory to contemporary art, including photography, Baroque heritage, and the city’s historical collections.

The European Night of Museums 2026 extends across the French Riviera, turning the entire region into a vast open-air museum.

Antibes

Museums will remain open from 8:00 PM to midnight, including:

Cannes

The Museum of World Explorations will offer evening openings and themed cultural visits.

Menton

Menton presents one of the richest programs of the night:

  • 7:00 – 8:00 PM: guided storytelling tour “Les voyages de Lisbeth” at Le Bastion
  • 8:00 – 9:00 PM: performance “Parade”, inspired by Jean Cocteau, combining dance, theatre, and cinema
  • Until midnight: extended opening of the Jean Cocteau Museum – Le Bastion
