The Prince’s Government, on the occasion of the “Tobacco-Free Month”, is launching a series of information and prevention initiatives focused on protecting minors and reducing exposure to passive smoking.
This campaign is based on raising awareness about the dangers of tobacco and presenting support services available to the public, following the recent anti-tobacco reform adopted during the summer of 2025.

🔎 Key Facts

Tobacco remains a major cause of cancer, cardiovascular, and respiratory diseases.
It is essential to remember that there is no safe level of tobacco exposure, in any form, including secondhand smoke.

On average, smoking initiation occurs between the ages of 15 and 25 — therefore, acting early is crucial.

For smokers, note that quitting brings rapid benefits — improved breathing, taste, and smell — and significantly reduces cardiovascular risks within the first year.
Never starting remains the best protection!

🤝 Getting Help

In Monaco, many support services are available and open to everyone.

The CSAPAM (Centre for Care, Support and Prevention in Addictology) – (+377 98 98 27 97)provides free and confidential support for those wishing to quit smoking, Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A Youth Consultation (ages 15–25) is held every Wednesday, with or without an appointment.

The CSAPAM offers evaluation, guidance, personalized support, and adapted treatments, including nicotine replacement therapies.

A tobacco specialist also provides free consultations throughout the year, including medical care, nutritional, and psychological support.

Doctors, pharmacists, and psychologists in private practice can also assist in quitting: a simple professional advice significantly increases success rates.

⚖️ The Anti-Tobacco Law

An important milestone was reached on May 15, 2025, with the adoption of a major reform of the law on protection against smoking.

This legislation modernizes and strengthens public protection, particularly for minors, through several key measures:

  • Legal purchase age raised to 18 for all tobacco and related products;

  • Expansion of smoke-free areas, reinforcing the fight against passive smoking;

  • Regulation of related products and electronic devices;

  • Total ban on disposable electronic devices (“puffs”), due to their appeal to youth and environmental impact.

🌿 A Prevention Effort Built to Last

Throughout the “Tobacco-Free Month”, a coordinated campaign will be implemented, including public information activities, targeted interventions, and enhanced signage in designated areas.

This dynamic will continue through ongoing and recurring actions, ensuring long-term prevention efforts for the benefit of the population, especially young people.
