Le Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo 2025 Pays Tribute to Pierre Boulez on the Centenary of His Birth

The festival honors this emblematic figure of contemporary music—a visionary composer, an exceptional conductor, and a revolutionary theorist. A unique portrait will reveal the many facets of his artistic legacy throughout the event, offering audiences an immersive experience.

During the second week, from March 20 to 23, 2025, Boulez’s influence will be explored through four concerts, two talks, one roundtable discussion, and two masterclasses, fostering an ongoing dialogue between past and present.

Poetry, a central element of his work, will be the focus of a lecture by musicologist François Meïmoun. His compositional legacy will be discussed in a roundtable with three leading contemporary composers: Philippe Manoury, Yan Maresz, and Bruno Mantovani. Finally, Boulez’s role as an institution builder will be examined by Laurent Bayle, Honorary Director of the Paris Philharmonic.

On the musical side, this week will feature a major highlight: the BBC Symphony Orchestra of London, of which Boulez was Principal Conductor from 1971 to 1975, will perform with guest soloist François-Frédéric Guy at the piano. The program reflects Boulez’s passion for modernity, featuring works by Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky, and Schönberg.
