Yesterday, Tuesday, January 9, Blaise RAPIOR, General Manager of Escota and Deputy General Manager of VINCI Autoroutes, along with Jean-Jacques RAFFAELE, Mayor of La Turbie and Vice President of the Community of the French Riviera, Yves JUHEL, President of the Community of the French Riviera and Mayor of Menton, Charles Ange GINÉSY, President of the Department of Alpes-Maritimes, Pierre DARTOUT, Minister of State of the Principality of Monaco, and Hugues MOUTOUH, Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, inaugurated the new exit ramp of the A8 highway.
The recent ramp 58 will be primarily dedicated to Monaco East, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, and Beausoleil, offering additional access to the Principality of Monaco and contributing to improving traffic flow both on the A8 highway and in the Monaco tunnel. Authorized by ministerial decision, it was put into operation this morning, Wednesday, January 10, from 6 AM.
A new connecting road has been inaugurated to facilitate travel between Monaco and the municipalities to the east of the Department. Every day, about 47,000 people head to Monaco using the current transportation routes, but the constant increase in traffic has made these journeys increasingly challenging for regular users. To address this challenge and considering the significance of numerous daily commutes for the residents of Alpes-Maritimes and Monaco, local and departmental authorities, government services, representatives of the princely government of Monaco, and infrastructure managers supported the implementation of a new exit ramp from Nice, following those of the A500 and La Turbie.
The new access ramp will create an additional connection, facilitating access to the Principality of Monaco and the coastal municipalities of the eastern department. The goal is to reduce traffic through La Turbie and improve traffic flow on the A500 highway and in the Monaco tunnel, as well as along the Moyenne Corniche approaching Monaco.
Located on the A8 highway in the direction of France/Italy, this new exit ramp is in close proximity to the service area of the French Riviera in the municipality of La Turbie. The Monaco East – Roquebrune-Cap-Martin – Beausoleil interchange will serve as a new interchange point between the A8 highway and the departmental network (RD 2564 – Grande Corniche).
Last December, the technical services of the Ministry of Transport, acting as the granting authority on behalf of the State, conducted a control visit. On January 8, 2024, a ministerial decision of authorization was issued. Consequently, the new ramp will be open to the public starting from 6 AM on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
