Among the most remarkable sectors in terms of biodiversity, both in terms of species numbers and heritage species, the cliffs of the Port of Fontvieille deserve to be mentioned. The extent and amplitude of these cliffs form the basis of a great variety of ecological situations and plant communities that allow the development of surprising animal species. This natural environment, both well-exposed and protected from human presence, allows fauna to reproduce undisturbed.

Among the remarkable species, Peregrine Falcons, Kingfishers, and even a colony of Mediterranean Shag Cormorants can be observed. In the context of its missions to monitor and raise awareness about local birdlife, the Department of the Environment is organizing a awareness morning on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.

The first part will allow observing on land, with binoculars, the species from the base of the cliff, while the second part will allow observing the nesting sites of the Mediterranean Shag Cormorant from the boat of the Maritime Affairs Department. You will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with the Department of the Environment and an ornithologist from the Conservatory of Natural Spaces of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur on these species. It will also be an opportunity to learn how to observe these species without disturbing them.

This activity is open to about 15 people of all ages. Binoculars will be provided, but you can also bring your own equipment.

To reserve your spot, please contact the Department of the Environment by email at environnement@gouv.mc or by phone during the week at (+377) 98 98 83 41, which will provide you with the time and meeting place.
