The Principality of Monaco is preparing for a day of global historical significance. On Saturday, March 28, 2026, Pope Leo XIV will enter the Principality for what will be the first papal apostolic visit of the modern era. An event awaited for nearly five centuries: the last pontiff to officially visit Monaco was Paul III in 1538.
The Prince’s Palace has released the detailed program, which features a series of institutional meetings and spiritual moments across the Rock and the Fontvieille district.
The visit begins at 9:00 AM with the Pope’s arrival at the Monaco Heliport, where he will be received by Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene.
Key morning highlights include:
9:25 AM: Welcome ceremony in the Court of Honor of the Prince’s Palace.
9:40 AM: Private audience with the Sovereign.
10:10 AM: A historic highlight at Palace Square. The Prince and the Pope will deliver speeches to the public directly from the Palace balcony, an honor reserved for the most distinguished heads of state.
At 10:40 AM, Pope Leo XIV will board the Popemobile to travel through the Principality toward the Cathedral. At 11:00 AM, Archbishop Dominique-Marie David will lead an encounter with the local Catholic community.
The procession will then stop at the Sainte-Dévote Church (11:45 AM), a symbolic site of Monegasque identity, for a special meeting dedicated to youth and catechumens.
The climax of the apostolic visit will be the Solemn Mass celebrated at 3:30 PM at Stade Louis-II. The celebration will take place in the presence of the entire Princely Family, top civil and religious authorities, and thousands of faithful.
Practical Note: To manage the influx of pilgrims, a dedicated website will soon be available with instructions for accreditation and stadium access.
