From June 9 to 13, 2025, the city of Nice will host the World Oceans Week (WOW 2025), a free, open-to-all event that will turn the heart of the city into a vibrant hub for marine conservation. Held alongside the United Nations Ocean Conference, WOW 2025 is part of the broader initiative “L’Année de la Mer – Nice 2025”, supported by the municipality.
In collaboration with key partners like UNESCO, Nautilus, and the Schmidt Ocean Institute, the festival unfolds across the Théâtre de Verdure and Parvis Jacques Cotta, offering a dynamic mix of scientific outreach, environmental awareness, live music, and immersive art.
At the heart of the initiative is the Nautilus Village, a vibrant daytime space where both children and adults can join educational workshops, attend talks by experts, explore interactive exhibits, and connect with the world of marine science.
Each evening, the Théâtre de Verdure will host the Soirées Nautilus Village, combining live concerts, immersive performances, and audiovisual installations for an unforgettable experience focused on ocean life and sustainability.
Among the highlights: “The Reef Star”, a monumental sculpture created by artists Carlos Betancourt and Albert Latorre for the ReefLine project. Conceived to raise awareness of marine biodiversity loss, the piece blends visual beauty and ecological function, becoming an emblem of the conference.
“From June 9 to 13, our commitment to the ocean will take the form of an inclusive, engaging experience,” said Mayor Christian Estrosi. “The Nautilus Village will be a meeting ground for ideas, music, emotion, and science—because protecting the oceans is a global urgency that begins with each of us.”
Through WOW 2025, Nice reaffirms its role as a leader in environmental action, presenting a festival that is not only cultural, but deeply civic. Because the future of the oceans starts now. Together.
