Mrs. Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ, Government Counselor-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, intervened during the High-Level Segment of the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council, through a pre-recorded speech broadcast on February 25, 2025.
On this occasion, Mrs. BERRO-AMADEÏ first emphasized the importance that the Principality attaches to the respect for human rights and international law, as well as its commitment to the goals and principles of the United Nations.
During her speech, the Counselor-Minister praised the invaluable work of the investigative mechanisms created by the Human Rights Council or in many countries, and reminded that their efforts to document human rights violations will, in the long term, help establish accountability and fight impunity.
Mrs. BERRO-AMADEÏ also highlighted the major international challenges requiring coordinated global action, including climate change, environmental degradation, and the rapid development of artificial intelligence. In this context, she assured that the Principality would continue to provide political and financial support to the work of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to help address these crises and challenges.
The Human Rights Council, a subsidiary body of the United Nations General Assembly, is the primary UN body responsible for the promotion and protection of human rights. Its 58th session is being held in Geneva from February 24 to April 4, 2025.
