As part of the Monaco Collectif Humanitaire (MCH), the Cardio-Thoracic Centre of Monaco has just operated on two children suffering from heart conditions that could not yet be treated in their home countries — Madagascar and Burundi. On this occasion, the Collectif gathered its loyal donors on Thursday, July 24: Children & Future, Monaco Aide et Présence (MAP), AMADE, and Amitié Sans Frontières Internationale.

Mia (2 years old) and Fayah (9 years old) arrived two weeks ago from Burundi and Madagascar respectively, thanks to the association Aviation Sans Frontières. They were immediately welcomed by volunteer host families from the Monaco Red Cross.

At the Cardio-Thoracic Centre, a long-standing MCH partner since its creation in 2008, the two girls received the full attention and medical expertise of the care teams.

Currently, 90% of MCH-funded surgeries are carried out directly in the program’s partner countries.

However, Burundi still lacks the surgical infrastructure to treat heart defects, and Madagascar is only just beginning to perform open-heart surgeries.

It is therefore still essential to maintain patient transfers and surgical interventions in the Principality for children coming from these countries.

To mark the arrival of Mia and Fayah, MCH members gathered for the 2025 cheque handover: Children & Future, MCH’s leading donor; MAP, a loyal annual contributor; AMADE, which enabled the launch of a new program focused on capacity-building for health workers in partner countries, in collaboration with the association SHARE; and Amitié Sans Frontières Internationale, which recently held a sports tournament to help fund an operation in Monaco.

Despite these generous donations, the Collectif remains actively seeking further funding, as the needs unfortunately remain significant.

Since its creation, MCH has already provided care for over 630 children.
