MONACO – Encouraging people to use bicycles in their daily lives also means helping them take proper care of them. This is the idea behind the latest edition of Munegu Repair Biçiclëta, Monaco’s initiative dedicated to bicycle maintenance, inspections and awareness of sustainable mobility.
The event returns as part of European Mobility Week, with the aim of encouraging residents and visitors to choose more sustainable means of transport while keeping their bicycles safe, efficient and in good working condition.
Organised by the Municipality of Monaco in partnership with Decathlon, the initiative will take place on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Condamine Market.
During the afternoon, cyclists will be able to bring their bicycles for inspections and receive assistance with basic maintenance and adjustment work.
Participation is free and open to everyone, giving cyclists the opportunity to check the condition of their bikes and identify any work needed to ensure safer and more reliable daily travel.
For repairs requiring the replacement of inner tubes or tyres, participants will need to bring the necessary materials themselves.
Munegu Repair Biçiclëta is about more than technical assistance. The initiative also aims to help cyclists better understand how their bicycles work and recognise the importance of regular maintenance.
Checking brakes, tyres and other key components on a regular basis can not only extend the lifespan of a bicycle but also make everyday journeys safer and more reliable.
The goal is to promote greater awareness among those who choose cycling as a means of transport, turning routine maintenance into an essential habit linked to both safety and responsible mobility.
The initiative is part of the wider programme of European Mobility Week, the annual campaign encouraging cities and institutions to promote alternative and more sustainable ways of getting around.
In Monaco, a compact territory with a high level of urban density, bicycles can provide an especially practical solution for short-distance travel.
Reducing car use whenever possible, encouraging active mobility and making better use of existing transport options are all important steps towards creating a more environmentally conscious city and improving quality of life.
Munegu Repair Biçiclëta offers a practical approach to the transition towards more sustainable mobility: starting with everyday habits and making the most of simple solutions, such as keeping a bicycle properly maintained.
A check-up, an adjustment or a small repair can help extend the life of a bicycle and encourage people to use two wheels more frequently.
The event on September 16 at the Condamine Market will therefore bring together maintenance, safety and environmental awareness, demonstrating how sustainable mobility can begin with small everyday actions capable of making a meaningful difference to the way a city moves.
