On the occasion of the 10th meeting of the three States Parties to the Pelagos Agreement, held in Monaco on 12–13 November 2025, the Principality of Monaco was appointed to the Presidency of the Agreement for a two-year term. Representing Monaco, Madame Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Director General of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, chaired the sessions over the two days of intensive discussions.
The representatives of the three countries, together with numerous partners, reviewed the progress achieved in marine mammal protection and outlined the priority actions for the coming years.
Established over 25 years ago by France, Italy, and Monaco, the Pelagos Agreement reflects the shared commitment to preserve marine mammals in an area under significant human pressures.
The Pelagos Sanctuary covers 87,500 km², extending from the Presqu’île de Giens to southern Tuscany and continuing to northern Sardinia.
In a message to the participants, H.S.H. Prince Albert II stated:
“The Principality of Monaco will assume, with determination and in a spirit of continuity, the Presidency of the Meeting of the Parties for the next two years. This responsibility reflects our commitment to deepen cooperation between the three countries, strengthen implementation mechanisms, and continue awareness-raising efforts, particularly among younger generations.”
This statement underscores Monaco’s ongoing commitment to marine environmental protection through multilateral dialogue.
During its presidency, Monaco intends to continue and expand the Parties’ efforts, enhancing cooperation with Mediterranean and international organizations.
Through this presidency, Monaco reaffirms its historic commitment and its determination to act decisively to preserve a unique natural heritage at the heart of the Mediterranean.
