The Dante Alighieri Association of Monaco invites you to an evening with Elena Bonelli and her book “Io Gabriella Ferri. Una storia italiana.”
The evening, held under the High Patronage of H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover and the patronage of the Embassy of Italy in Monaco, will take place with free admission on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 6:30 PM at the Auditorium Rainier III (Room C).
The event will be hosted by Maurizio Di Maggio, following an introduction by the Association’s President, Mrs. Maria Betti.
The audience will have the opportunity to retrace the life and extraordinary career of Gabriella Ferri, one of the great interpreters of Roman music, who passed away in 2004.
Elena Bonelli is an actress, singer, and author of several books, including “Dallo stornello al rap” (2019, Arcana); “La canzone romana. La storia insolita e straordinaria della tradizione musicale di Roma. Da Balzani a Baglioni, da Venditti a Ultimo” (2021, Newton Compton); and the most recent “Io Gabriella Ferri” (2024, Arcana), portraying an artist who became a symbol of Roman music, celebrated for the passion and authenticity she conveyed through her songs.
The book is narrated in the first person by the character of Gabriella Ferri herself, recounting the singer’s story as well as that of the woman—her loves, sacrifices, and victories.
“This Italian story,” as the book reveals, “offers an intimate glimpse into the extraordinary life of the artist, from her childhood in the beating heart of Rome to her trials and triumphant theatrical performances.”
The text draws from Elena Bonelli’s vast experience in music and performing arts (as well as university lectures and conferences).
Elena Bonelli made her television debut in 1982 with directors Enzo Trapani and Antonello Falqui, and her theater debut in 1983 with Roberto De Simone. Among her many performances:
In 1996, she staged “La Douce France di Juliette Gréco”,
In 2000, she represented Italy with the concert “Napoli Mediterranea” at the UN headquarters in New York,
In 2002, she launched the “Roma nel Mondo” project, collaborating with director Carlo Lizzani and Maestro Pippo Caruso under the artistic direction of Sergio Bardotti,
In 2012, she starred in the show that premiered at the Teatro Parioli in Rome, dedicated to the two icons Anna Magnani and Gabriella Ferri, titled “Elena, Nannarella e Gabriella”.
Following the success of this production, she continued with “Magnani Ferri – vite da romanzo”, and in 2024 with the new production “Era Gabriella Ferri”, based on her latest book.
These are just a few highlights of the career of an artist who is considered a true “ambassador” of Roman songs and, more broadly, of Italian musical culture.
RAI dedicated a musical documentary to her, “Elena Bonelli – La voce di Roma”, broadcast on RAI 3 and currently available on RaiPlay.
Elena Bonelli is also the official voice of the Italian national anthem, Inno di Mameli, under the High Patronage of President Ciampi.
Her televised performance at the opening of the FIFA World Cup in Korea was particularly noteworthy.
