Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo 2025: Everything You Need to Know

After an international tour that took them to Florence, Zurich, and Paris, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo will return to the prestigious stage of the Grimaldi Forum from April 23 to 27, 2025.

On this occasion, the company will present an exceptional triptych, featuring works by three great masters of contemporary choreography: George Balanchine, Alexei Ratmansky, and Marco Goecke. Enhancing the event even further, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra will accompany the performances as part of the Festival Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo.

Les Quatre Tempéraments – George Balanchine

Created in 1946 for the New York City Ballet, Les Quatre Tempéraments is inspired by the medieval theory that human character is determined by the balance of four fundamental temperaments. Balanchine translates this philosophy into a dance of essential elegance and geometric purity, combining technical virtuosity, refined arabesques, and a revolutionary choreographic structure that has left a lasting mark on modern ballet.

Wartime Elegy – Alexei Ratmansky

Born in Russia and raised in Ukraine, Alexei Ratmansky personally experienced the rupture between the two countries and chose exile after the invasion of Ukraine. Wartime Elegy is a deeply moving creation, where classical dance intertwines with elements of folk tradition, both in movement and costume. A poignant tribute to Ukrainian resilience and culture, turning pain into art.

La Nuit transfigurée – Marco Goecke

Inspired by Arnold Schönberg’s masterpiece, La Nuit transfigurée explores the romantic atmosphere of a work born from the composer’s love for his future wife. Marco Goecke, with his unique and vibrant choreographic language, transforms this youthful composition into an intense and pulsating creation, where frenetic movement alternates with moments of deep emotion.
