On July 26, 2024, the Plurinational State of Bolivia became the 160th state with which the Principality of Monaco has established diplomatic relations, following the signing of joint communiqués by the Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives to the United Nations in New York, H.E. Mr. Diego PARY RODRIGUEZ and H.E. Mrs. Isabelle PICCO. Bolivia is a landlocked country in South America with a multiethnic population. While Spanish remains the unifying language, the Bolivian Constitution also recognizes 36 official languages, with Quechua being the most widespread. On the occasion of this signing, the Ambassadors discussed the importance of culture and multilingualism, themes particularly significant for mutual understanding and respect for differences, as the Pact for the Future is currently being negotiated ahead of the United Nations Future Summit.
