On April 28, 2025, Ms. Alyson CALEM-SANGIORGIO, Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Monaco to the United Nations, was elected Vice-Chair and Rapporteur of the United Nations Committee on Information* for the 2025–2026 term. This Committee addresses matters related to public information and global communication. It reviews the work of the Department of Global Communications (DGC), which aims to enhance the impact, transparency, and credibility of UN action.

In her speech, Ms. CALEM-SANGIORGIO emphasized the importance of the UN positioning itself as a reliable source of information in a world where disinformation spreads increasingly quickly. Highlighting the crucial role of the DGC in disseminating factual, accessible, and multilingual information, she also praised key initiatives — from the “Verified” campaign to sports diplomacy partnerships such as the “Football for the Goals” program — that showcase the UN’s ability to engage with a broad and diverse audience.

Ms. CALEM-SANGIORGIO reaffirmed Monaco’s commitment to defending fundamental freedoms such as freedom of expression, journalist safety, and multilingualism as the pillars of a trustworthy information ecosystem. She also expressed the Principality’s support for the launch of the UN’s Global Principles for Information Integrity (www.un.org/en/information-integrity/global-principles).
