Nearly 500 students from the Principality gathered on Thursday, January 30, at the Théâtre des Variétés to vote for their favorite short film, as members of the Children’s Jury of the « Cinema for Change » Festival, supported by the Princely Government.

In the evening, students from the Menton campus of Sciences Po Paris debated and voted for their favorite film in the Student Award category. Every year, the « Cinema for Change » Festival features short films from around the world that illustrate the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the United Nations in September 2015. For this 14th edition, the Princely Government supports the three Youth Awards (Children, Middle/High School Students, and University Students) to raise awareness of development and international solidarity.

Marc Obéron, the festival’s founder, presented the six short films in competition for the Children’s Award to the 22 classes from six schools in the Principality. The votes from the students in Monaco will be added to those from other child jurors of the Festival, enrolled in France and in seven partner countries of the Monegasque Cooperation (Burkina Faso, Burundi, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, and Tunisia), forming a jury of more than 30,000 students.

In the evening, students from Sciences Po Paris, Mediterranean-Middle East campus in Menton, participated in the Festival by watching the four shortlisted films for the Student Award.

This activity is part of a partnership agreement in which the Directorate of International Cooperation and the Campus are committed to collaborating to raise awareness among students about development issues, human rights, and the fight against poverty worldwide.

The awards ceremony for the « Cinema for Change » Festival will be held on Saturday, April 12, at the Good Planet Foundation in Paris.
