On February 9th, H.E. Mrs. Anne EASTWOOD, accompanied by Honorary Consul Mrs. Rossana MICHELOTTI of Monaco in San Marino, presented her letters of credence to Their Serene Highnesses Filippo TAMAGNINI and Gaetano TROINA, Captains Regent of the Republic of San Marino. The ceremony, held at the Palazzo Pubblico, brought together the Ambassador and seven other counterparts accredited to the Italian Republic, including the Ambassadors of France and Germany, who officially assumed their roles as non-resident Ambassadors in San Marino on the same day. The day before, H.E. Mrs. Anne EASTWOOD had a meeting with Mr. Luca BECCARI, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, followed by a meeting with representatives of the San Marino Chamber of Commerce. Discussions focused on the historical ties of proximity and friendship between San Marino and Monaco. With 34,000 inhabitants in a territory of 61 km², San Marino is the third smallest state in Europe after the Vatican and the Principality, sharing common issues with the latter. Among the topics discussed, negotiations with the European Union since 2015 to achieve an association agreement naturally played a central role. Both Minister BECCARI and the Ambassador applauded the excellent collaboration in this context, despite the recent divergent outcomes by the two countries in this process, and confirmed their intention to continue the dialogue and intensify cooperation, both bilaterally and within initiatives aimed at uniting the small states of Europe more broadly. H.E. Mrs. Anne EASTWOOD also took the opportunity of these exchanges to greet the recent election, with Monegasque support, of the director of the San Marino Financial Intelligence Agency to the head of MONEYVAL.
