Already accredited in Italy and Slovenia, H.E. Mrs. Anne EASTWOOD presented her letters of credence to H.E. Mr. George VELLA, President of the Republic of Malta, during a ceremony held on January 30th at the Presidential Palace in Valletta. The discussions held in a private audience highlighted the strong friendship between Malta and Monaco, two small European states united by a common Mediterranean identity and shared values and convictions, including the importance placed on action in international forums to accelerate progress, especially in environmental matters where both countries are heavily involved and often speak with one voice. These exchanges continued during a lunch hosted by the President and his wife at the Sant’Anton Palace, the Presidential couple’s residence, attended by around thirty guests. The Ambassador also had discussions with H.E. Mr. Ian BORG, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, where potential areas of cooperation in economically promising sectors with synergies such as tourism, yachting, and artificial intelligence were discussed. Convergences in the positions of the two countries on major multilateral issues and the two ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East were also emphasized. The Ambassador acknowledged Malta’s significant role in peace and security issues through its current mandate on the UN Security Council and, since January, as the head of the OSCE, demonstrating the ability of countries to influence major strategic issues regardless of their size. Finally, H.E. Mrs. Anne EASTWOOD was received the day after her accreditation in Parliament by Mr. Angelo FERRUGIA, President of the House of Representatives, before visiting Epic, the first mobile telecommunications operator in Malta and a subsidiary of Monaco Telecom since 2020. H.E. Mrs. EASTWOOD is the second Ambassador and the first woman accredited for the Principality to the Republic of Malta, following H.E. Mr. Robert FILLON in 2018.
