One year after its launch, Médecins de Garde Monaco, Monaco’s out-of-hours medical service, is reporting positive initial results. Established in October 2025 to strengthen access to medical care outside regular hours in the Principality, the service handled nearly 1,600 interventions over twelve months, highlighting the demand for overnight medical assistance that does not require a visit to an emergency department.
With an average of four to five medical acts per duty shift, the service addresses a clear need: enabling Monaco residents to access medical care at night when their condition does not require emergency hospital treatment.
The Médecins de Garde Monaco service can be reached by calling 116 117. It operates every day of the year, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., including weekends and public holidays.
The service is provided by a team of 23 doctors who respond to residents’ medical needs outside standard consultation hours.
Its aim is to make medical advice and care more accessible at night, when doctors’ offices are generally closed. The service provides an appropriate point of contact for non-emergency medical needs and helps reduce unnecessary use of emergency services.
The figures recorded since the service was launched demonstrate its use by Monaco’s population. Nearly 1,600 interventions were carried out in one year, averaging four to five medical acts per duty shift.
These initial results underline the importance of providing medical care outside conventional consultation hours. By offering a local solution for non-urgent medical needs at night, Médecins de Garde Monaco contributes to the organisation of healthcare services throughout the Principality.
The service has two main objectives: improving residents’ access to healthcare and helping ensure that patients receive appropriate guidance according to their medical needs.
Christophe Robino, Minister of Social Affairs and Health in Monaco’s Government, views the introduction of the service as an important step towards improving care for the population.
“The creation of Médecins de Garde Monaco has helped strengthen access to healthcare and improve care for the population. Because the quality of a healthcare system is also measured by its ability to respond to everyone’s needs on a daily basis,” he states.
The initiative forms part of a broader effort to make medical care accessible at different times of the day, particularly when regular medical practices and healthcare facilities are no longer available.
Anyone requiring medical advice or assistance during the night can contact Médecins de Garde Monaco on 116 117, between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., every day of the year.
The service is intended for non-emergency medical situations. In the event of a life-threatening emergency, emergency services should be contacted immediately.
With nearly 1,600 interventions during its first year, Médecins de Garde Monaco is establishing its role within the Principality’s healthcare system. The initial results highlight the value of overnight medical cover in meeting residents’ needs and facilitating access to appropriate care.
